Winter 2025 Style Inspiration

Winter 2025 Style Inspiration

The line between autumn and winter trends is usually pretty blurry. A lot of what we saw in the autumn 2024 trends—like voluminous layers, unique necklines, and sheer fabrics—is rolling over into winter.

Winter trends often have a more polished edge, with tailored silhouettes, luxurious textures, and statement details. The focus this season is all about balancing practical comfort with a hint of holiday glamour—while keeping your personal style in focus.

Trend Highlights for Winter 2024/2025

Here’s my personal approach to trends: I enjoy them, but I don’t see the point in a complete wardrobe overhaul every season. Fashion trends are cyclical, so chances are you already have pieces that suit the current styles.

Before buying anything new, I always check my wardrobe to see what I already have that could work. Anything I feel my wardrobe is missing can be found in charity shops or on Vinted. Thrifting is a much more budget-friendly and sustainable way to follow trends. Plus, you'll end up with a more unique style.

So, as we head into winter 2024/2025, remember that you don’t have to buy into every new trend to feel stylish. Embrace what makes you feel good, make the most of what you’ve already got, and thrift for what you need. After all, personal style is about making the trends work for you, not the other way around.

Down-to-Earth Dressing

This season’s fashion has a cosy, down-to-earth feel, with wearable clothes that blend practicality with style. Think: countryside-inspired looks, ski-lodge knits, and quilted jackets—basically, pieces that make you feel like you’re wrapped in a duvet while still looking stylish.

Personally, I’m all about outfits that feel comfortable yet put together. I want to look polished without sacrificing comfort, and this winter trend makes that so easy to do with what I already own. Knitwear, for example, is one of those essentials I always recommend getting second-hand—a good sweater doesn’t need to be brand-new to be beautiful!

Tailored Clothing

It's not all oversized coats and chunky knitwear this season. This season, tailored pieces balance out the cosy, casual vibe, giving your wardrobe a little edge. Power dressing is back, with smoking suits, structured coats, and bold shoulders that somehow manage to make even the simplest outfits feel more powerful.

There’s something about a classic longline coat that instantly elevates any outfit. It adds polish, and it’s incredibly versatile—you can wear it with jeans and a jumper, or layer it over a dress for a smarter look. Plus, it’s a timeless piece, so if you invest in a good vintage one, it’s something you can keep reaching for year after year.

Mixed Layers

Winter doesn’t have to mean piling on thick, heavy layers all the time. This season's trend for incorporating sheer overlays is a fun way to refresh traditional cosy winter looks without sacrificing warmth. The contrast between delicate, flowing sheer fabrics and thicker, structured layers adds just the right amount of drama—perfect for those who prefer an edgy wardrobe.

I’ve already been having fun with this trend, layering sheer dresses over vibrant slips or pairing them with high-waisted trousers. It’s an easy way to lighten up an outfit and add a playful touch, even on those darker winter days. Finding the right sheer pieces to incorporate into your wardrobe is the hardest part, these tips will help you style the sheer trend.

Extravagant Details

Let’s be honest—winter fashion can get a bit dull if you’re just wearing practical clothes everyday. Sequins, feathers, ruffles, and bows are key features this season, paired with sheer fabric, fringe details, unique necklines, and asymmetric hems offering a way to make old winter staples feel exciting again.

One thing I’ve loved in recent months is adding personality to my capsule wardrobe with bag charms, embroidered details, and playful jewellery. I’ve found that even on days when I’m wearing the simplest outfit, these details make it more fun to wear. It’s a fun way to keep things fresh without having to buy an entirely new wardrobe.

Fashion vs Style

It’s getting harder and harder to find style inspiration for these seasonal round-ups. Every outfit feels like a carbon copy of the next. The most popular content creators all dress the same—and that’s becoming a huge problem.

Everyone seems to be shopping at the same stores, wearing the same clothes, in the same beige colour palette. They package it as being stylish, but really, it’s just trend-following with rules on how to dress if you want to fit in with the "cool" crowd.

And look, there's nothing wrong with wanting to blend in, look fashionable, and always feel put together. But if you’re hoping to find your own personal style? Fashion influencers aren’t going to help with that. Blending in has its advantages, but I just can’t help feeling like fashion is becoming dull because of it.

Personal Style Inspiration

Fashion trends can be a fun way to keep your outfits feeling fashionable. But the real magic of a stylish, cohesive wardrobe lies in focusing on what truly inspires you. Creating a mood board is a brilliant first step—it’s a style roadmap that helps make creating a capsule wardrobe full of personality easy.

Start by collecting style inspiration that catch your eye. You’ll likely notice certain themes or trends in the outfits, textures, colours, and silhouettes you prefer. This will help clarify your style preferences and make it easier to filter out trends that don’t feel quite right for you.

Building your seasonal wardrobe around your own style inspiration, rather than specific trends, ensures that your capsule is not only wearable but authentic too. This approach creates a wardrobe that’s filled with outfits you'll genuinely enjoy wearing day-to-day, and is a true reflection of your unique personal style.

This is my personal winter style inspiration and the particular fashion trends I'll be incorporating into my capsule wardrobe and my winter outfits.

A Monochrome Palette

A monochrome outfit is one of my favourite winter looks. There’s something incredibly stylish and put together about sticking to a single colour or tonal palette. My go-to choice is head-to-toe black but this winter I'm really embracing the combination of black, cream, and white. Not only is it easy to throw an outfit together, it looks like you put in serious effort.

Oversized Outerwear

Winter wouldn’t be winter without a big, cosy coat—and oversized outerwear is an easy way of adding warmth and a bit of drama to any outfit. High quality coats are easy to thrift, I found my oversized longline coat on eBay a few years ago and have worn it every winter since. The beauty of these big coats is that they work with everything, and instantly makes an outfit feel both fashionable and timeless.

Texture Mixing

One of the best parts of winter style is the freedom to mix and match different textures. Texture mixing feels luxurious but is so wearable—it’s a way of making every outfit visually interesting and full of personality. This season, I’m going to be pairing chunky knitwear with flowy dresses, and incorporating delicate fabrics with heavier pieces. Textures bring an outfit to life, even if the colours are simple, adding depth and interest without much extra effort.

Sheer Layers

Sheer fabrics are very much on trend this season, and I’ve been enjoying layering them in unexpected ways to add a bit of drama to my all black winter looks. I thrifted a structured, oversized dress and have been experimenting with ways to style it, that are both playful and elegant. It's a fun way to change up the classic winter looks and keeps outfits feeling light even on the darkest winter days.

Holiday Glamour

Winter wouldn’t be complete without a bit of holiday glamour! It's one of the most exciting aspects of this season's style for me. I prefer a subtle approach to holiday dressing with little touches that feel luxurious without being gaudy. I'm going to be embracing more luxurious fabrics, like velvety cord, textured cotton, and plisse pieces, along with classic jewellery and charm accessories.
