It had been several years since I last visited Scotland. So when the opportunity to take a long weekend in Glasgow arose I jumped at the chance. I travelled via train from Birmingham with my partner, who was visiting Scotland for work, and our dog to stay at the dog-friendly Kimpton Blythswood Square Glasgow.
Kimpton Blythswood Square Glasgow is located in the city centre, within walking distance of all the major attractions. If arriving by train, the hotel is only a 10 minute walk from Glasgow Grand Central - albeit mostly uphill! It's a relatively quiet area despite being so central, and was a real joy to explore on an early morning dog walk.
The building — a converted terrace of Georgian townhouses — is impressive with its stately architecture overlooking a leafy leafy square and private gardens. Stone steps lead up to the hotel's lobby, which has a bold style executed in great taste. The hotel's interior is light and airy with modern furniture, high ceilings, and spacious rooms.
At Kimpton, they not only allow dogs, they welcome them with open arms. There are no extra pet charges and the hotel provides anything you might have forgotten, from dog beds to water bowls. It was not only one of the most dog-friendly places we've ever stayed but also one of the most relaxing.
Nothing was an inconvenience at Kimpton Blythswood Square Glasgow. Simple touches, like arranging to have breakfast brought to us in the lounge upstairs so our dog could dine with us, made our stay even more enjoyable. The staff were exceptional and went out of their way to assist us. Nothing was ever too much trouble and our dog was treated like any other guest.
Rooms are the Kimpton Blythswood Square Glasgow are designed with comfort in mind. Every detail has been thought of to ensure the space is not only practical and functional but also extremely comfortable. There wasn't a single thing that had been overlooked; everything was provided for us. The concierge even arranged for a dog bed to be brought to our room before we'd even thought to ask for one!
The premium room we stayed in was contemporary in style with a comfy king size bed, black marble bathroom, and slightly more living space than an 'essential room.' Decorated in muted colours with sleek modern furniture and suspended globe lighting; the mixture of natural wood and stone gave the room an impressive yet understated feel.
The marble bathroom was the most striking feature. Although the shower and toilet were separate, the bathroom had a semi-open plan design. A sliding panel provided more privacy but we kept it open as it made the room feel much more spacious.
Although we packed light, the wardrobe was noticeably small. Anyone with more than a small suitcase or backpack would struggle. Thankfully there was plenty of floor space even with a huge dog bed and our bags taking up a lot of the room. We never felt cramped and the room was a delight to spend time in.
We had an absolutely wonderful time to Kimpton Blythswood Square Glasgow and have already looked into staying at one of their other hotels! If you're keen to explore the city for yourself, check out my Glasgow travel guide with the best dog-friendly things to do in Scotland.
