One of the biggest joys of slow travel is being able to take your companion with you on your adventures. Whether you're travelling by public transport, booking a pet-friendly hotel, or looking for local dog-friendly activities, travelling with your dog has become so much easier.
I took my first proper dog-friendly holiday to Lyme Regis this year. We found there are so many options when it comes to dog-friendly hotels, cottages, and AirBnBs. Public transport is almost always pet-friendly, and even car rental companies offer dog-friendly options too.
If you're wondering where you can take your dog on holiday in the UK; I've been travelling with my companion and found five of the best locations for dog-friendly holidays.
The Midlands
If you want the perfect balance between city exploration and country walks, the Midlands is the ideal place to visit with your dog. There are countless dog-friendly walks, as well as dogs-go-free attractions to enjoy together. Our favourites include Kinver Edge and the Lickey Hills.
It's not always easy knowing what places are pet-friendly in a city. So I created a dog-friendly guide to Birmingham listing all the hotels, restaurants, pubs, and coffee shops that welcome dogs. These are our favourite places to visit in the Jewellery Quarter.
Dorset
There are a remarkable amount of dog-friendly attractions in Dorset, from hidden coves to historic sites to towering cliffs. Close by is Corfe Castle and the model village. With the popular beauty spots Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove being only a short drive away.
We went on a holiday with friends to Lyme Regis, staying in a dog-friendly AirBnB. It's the ideal location for exploring the Jurassic Coast and surrounding countryside. I shared a few important things to known about travelling with a dog to Dorset in this travel guide to Lyme Regis.
Brighton
Brighton is absolutely packed with dog-friendly restaurants and attractions, you could pick somewhere at random and the chances are not only would it be great; it would most likely vegan and dog-friendly too.
We were visiting friends and stuck to exploring the city centre, visiting the beautiful parks, dog-friendly beaches and attractions. But if you venture further afield, you'll find amazing countryside walks to explore with your companion.
Kent
I'm originally from Kent and travel back regularly to see family. One of the best things about travelling with a dog is getting to experience everything again through their eyes. We've been revisiting all the places I've known since I was a child, from the White Cliffs of Dover to Blean Woods.
Kent is known for being the Garden of England. Best visited in summer so you can experience the glorious countryside, endless beaches, and seaside towns. There are so many dog-friendly things to do in Kent, I put together a guide to help plan your trip.
Cornwall
Cornwall is an exciting place to visit with a dog. Much like Dorset, there are miles of coastal footpaths and acres of natural woodland to explore. Even the popular attractions, like the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan, are dog-friendly.
I would love to revisit Cornwall with my dog. I went on holiday there with friends, and it was one of the most dog-friendly places I have ever visited. Every pub and restaurant we visited was absolutely packed with dogs. I'd love to revisit with my companion.
