It's always difficult putting together an autumn capsule wardrobe. I love summer and I never want the warm weather to end. So I savour every warm day we have, and put off switching my wardrobe over for as long as possible. Once we hit October, it's hard to deny the need for warmer layers...
I put together this autumn capsule on an end-of-summer day. The weather was swinging wildly from an intense thunderstorm to bright sunshine. It was tricky to get my clothing choices right, and I don't feel entirely confident in the final result.. It may need some tweaks throughout the season.
This is something that isn't spoken about enough. Capsule wardrobes are supposed to make life easier, not harder. They should be flexible. You shouldn't feel stuck with clothes that aren't working for you. The whole point of a capsule wardrobe is to get as much wear as possible out of the items you own. If something that wasn't included in your seasonal capsule would make an outfit more comfortable or stylish, wear it!

I find styling for the cold weather hard. It's so much easier to put together a capsule wardrobe for the seasons you love the most. My summer capsule wardrobe worked really well for me and I was happy with the outfits I created. Although I love the bold style autumn and winter encourages, I don't particularly enjoy having to wear layers upon layers of clothing.
Creating a style inspiration moodboard really helped make putting together this capsule and styling outfits for the season so much easier. Although finding outfit inspiration was still a struggle! I really had to follow the rabbit hole of street style and outfit of the day photos. These are my tips for finding style inspiration on Pinterest.
Some of the outfits I originally pinned to my autumn style inspiration moodboard just wouldn't work for me. Oversized knitwear layered over skirts or maxi dresses look awkward and frumpy on an hourglass body. So I had to do some tweaking to get the look just right. If you're having the same problem and struggle to style outifts; this guide to recreating Pinterest outfits should help.
I challenged myself to share 30 days of outfits on TikTok during September. It was a fun exercise that had me trying new outfit combinations. It's useful for anyone wondering how my seasonal capsule wardrobe translates into wearable outfits. Follow on TikTok to see my capsule wardrobe in action.
