We originally wanted to visit the Pergamon museum but since large areas of the museum were closed and the queue was over 2 hours long we visited the Neues museum instead.
This museum presents exhibits from three collections: the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection, the Museum for Pre- and Early History, and the Collection of Classical Antiquities. After visiting Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg, which had a beautifully curated and nicely balanced collection of exhibits, the Neues museum failed to capture our attention quite so much.
I thoroughly enjoyed a lot of the Egyptian displays and seeing Nefertiti's bust was inspiring. The opportunity to listen to a free guided tour made experiencing the museum a lot more informative and interesting; a lot of museums fail to provide this option and it really added to our experience of the exhibits.
While the Neues museum wasn't the best museum we have ever visited, it's certainly worth a visit especially if you appreciate and want to learn more about Egyptian history. There are plenty of interesting statues and artwork and it's nice to sit in the huge halls listening to the tales of Egyptian royalty.
